Cameron Public Library POLICIES PUBLIC ACCESS
MICROCOMPUTER POLICY 1.
The Library Staff will give individual instructions on the correct
operation of the
computer and explain the rules for its use. 2.
After patrons are oriented and have signed a responsibility statement,
they may use
the computer. A child's
responsibility statement must be signed by his/her parent
or guardian. This statement
identifies the patron as having attended a training session and shown a staff
person his/her ability to use the equipment appropriately. The statement is filed at the library.
Patron need not sign more than for the first use. 3.
The patron must leave his/her identification (driver's license) at the
desk when
checking out program disks. 4.
Use of the computer will be scheduled by reservation. Patrons may use the computer
for longer periods of time if no one else has reserved it.
Each patrons time per day limited to two hours.
The second hour is charged to the patron at a cost of $5.00. If the
first hour exceeds 1 hour, 15 minutes, it will be considered 2
hours and patron charged accordingly.
The time begins on the hour and ends at
five minutes before the following hour.
The library clock is the official timepiece. 5.
Reservations may be made up to one week in advance., one use per day.
A patron has until
10 minutes past the hour to claim his reservation.
After that time his reservation may be forfeited to another patron.
Reservations will be made on a first come, first served basis.
Reservations will be made on the hour only. Walk-ins may use the computer until the top of the hour, except if
there is no
reservation for that computer, they may use it for a full hour. 6.
No more than two people may sit at the computer at one time.
Both must have a 7.
Patrons using the computer who are disrupting the library may be asked to
leave. 8.
Use of the computer is limited to normal library hours. 9.
Computer equipment may not be checked out of the library. 10
. Patrons misusing the equipment may lose their computer privileges. 11.
A person must be a registered patron in good standing to use the
computer. Out of
the area travelers may use the library internet computer one time per day
for a period of 20 minutes to check
their e-mail only. 12.
If the microcomputer is not operating for any reason, the patron's time
will be 13.
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult user who 14.
Patron must purchase their own disk to save data.
The library will not furnish disks. 15.
Hard copies printed by the printer will be charged at .25 (twenty-five
cents) 16.
Cameron Public Library has the right to check all patron disks for
computer virus before they are used on
library computer(s). PUBLIC ACCESS
MICROCOMPUTER USER AGREEMENT 1.
Cameron Public Library microcomputer user agrees to take proper care
of equipment, diskettes, manuals, magazines, books and other equipment
that is the property of the Cameron Public Library.
When there is a fault with any equipment or materials, the user will
immediately report any difficulty or problem to the library staff. 2.
User agrees to pay replacement cost of any equipment or materials lost 3.
User agrees to observe all copyright laws.
User agrees not to duplicate any computer
program or documentation provided by the library that is not in the
public domain. 4.
The Cameron Public Library makes no guarantees, either express or
implied 5.
All users must purchase their own recording media (Diskettes, etc.).
The diskettes 6.
There will be a fee of 25 cents per page for computer paper used in the
printer. 7.
Failure to observe any part of the above agreement may result in a
suspension

POLICY AND GUIDELINES WELCOME
to the Cameron Public Library's Internet access.
To maximize availability to this resource, and to insure fair
accessibility for all, please follow these Internet Access Guidelines, which
include our Internet policies, rules and procedures. INTERNET ACCESS
POLICY
In response to advances in technology and the changing needs of the
community, the Cameron Public Library endeavors to develop collections,
resources and services that meet the cultural, informational, recreational, and
educational needs of our community. It
is within this context that the Cameron Public Library offers access to the
internet.
The Cameron Public Library does NOT monitor and has NO control over the
information accessed through the Internet and CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE
Internet resources accessible through the library are provided equally to
all library users. Parents or
guardians, not the library or its staff, are responsible for the internet
information selected and/or accessed by their children.
Approval must be provided by a parent
or guardian before a child who has not completed eighth grade or is under the
age of fourteen (14) will be allowed to use the Internet computers.
Children twelve (12) years of age and under will be required to have a
parent with them for using all public computers; with the exception of the
on-line public catalog computers. PARENTS
ARE ADVISED TO SUPERVISE THEIR CHILDREN'S INTERNET SESSIONS. TO
BE MORE SPECIFIC:
The Cameron Public Library does not censor your access to materials or
protect you from information you may find offensive.
There is sexually explicit material and other information resources which
you may find controversial or inappropriate.
Not all sources on the Internet provide accurate, complete or current
information.
All internet users must sign an internet Agreement which explains
behavior considered appropriate. A
parent or guardian must sign the Internet Agreement for children who have not
completed the eighth (8) grade or are under the age of fourteen (14).
All Children age twelve (12) or under must be accompanied by a parent.
All children under 14 who need a parent to sign the computer usage
agreements CANNOT take them home to have a parent sign.
The parent(s) will be required to come in the library to sign, so that
library staff can verify that the parent(s) have read and signed the
agreement forms; and understand that they are responsible for any damage or
problems caused by the child and will be required to pay for any needed repairs.

We will be glad to assist you in accessing the Internet and we will
provide you with any reference materials we have available to aid you in your
search. The Library staff cannot
provide in-depth training concerning Internet Computer jargon, search strategies
or personal computer use. Because
of library scheduling, internet-trained staff may not always be available.
Have fun exploring the internet but please remember that many times you
will find the specific information you need right here...in books and
periodicals. INTERNET ACCESS
GUIDELINES 1.
You'll need a valid Cameron Public Library card and a signed Internet
Agreement. You will be given access
to a terminal for a one (1) hour internet session.
Review the screen upon beginning your session and report any problems
immediately. Please do NOT 2.
The Internet Access computer(s) are normally available, subject to
periodic maintenance during regular library hours. 3.
Reservations for the Internet Access Computers are on a first-come,
first-served basis. The
reservations will be made for one (1) hour per session.
If there is no reservation for the hour following your scheduled time,
you may continue to use the computer for up to but no more than one (1)
additional hour. The second hour on the computer will be charged to you at a
cost of $5.00. Under no
circumstances, will a patron be permitted to continue to use the computer for
more than two (2) hours in one day. whether
the hours are consecutive or separate. If
patron does not leave the computer workstation at the end of the two hours, he
will be asked to leave. 4..
If a patron wishes to use the computer for the second hour in the same library
day, the patron will be charged $5.00 for the second hour.
Time on the computer exceeding one hour and fifteen minutes (1 hr.15
min.) shall be construed to be two (2) hours and will be charged accordingly.

If you are late and another person has the computer reserved, you may not
extend your session to make up for the time lost.
Reservations are canceled if you are not "logged on" within 10
minutes of the beginning of the session. 6.
You will be required to "log-in" and "log-out" at the
beginning and ending of each session. This
procedure simply requires that you sign our "Public Internet Log"
sheet 7.
You cannot send or receive e-mail (electronic mail) using the library's
Internet access computer, other than what is available through internet
resources. 8.
You may NOT use your own software programs on the Internet Access
Computer. This will help prevent
computer viruses that are common on public computers. 9.
You are welcome to download information to a floppy diskette. Diskettes are available at the circulation desk for $1.00
each . You can not download any software, programs, etc to the library’s
computers. WARNING:
Software downloaded from the Internet may contain a virus and you need to
have virus-checking software on your home computer.
The Cameron Public Library is not 10.
You may print information you find.
Each page printed will cost 25 cents, this payment is made at the
circulation desk, before you leave the library.
Persons furnishing personal stationary will be charged .20 cents per
copy. 11.
You may not be able to always go to the places on the Internet you want
to visit. 12.
We ask that not more than two people be at one computer terminal at the
same time. 13.
Disruptive patrons will be asked to leave,
and the computer session will be ended. 14.
Misuse of the computer or Internet access will result in the loss of your
computer I

In addition I agree to the following principles which are common to all
Internet users: 1.
RESPECT FOR THE PROPERTY OF OTHERS.
It is not acceptable to attempt to modify or gain access to
files, passwords, or data belonging to others; to seek unauthorized access to
any computer system; or to damage or alter software components or equipment of
any network or database by the propagation of computer worms and viruses and any
other means. 2
RESPECT FOR THE LEGAL RIGHTS OF OTHERS.
It is not acceptable to use the internet access for any purposes which
violate U.S. or state laws, including the license and copyright laws governing
software programs or data. 3.
RESPECT FOR THE PRIVACY OF OTHERS.
It is not acceptable to misrepresent oneself as another user; to use the
Internet access to transmit threatening, obscene or harassing materials; or to
interfere with or disrupt network users, services or equipment. Disruptions include, but are not limited to: distribution of
unsolicited advertising; and sending, receiving or displaying text or graphics
which may reasonably be construed as obscene I
understand that failure to comply with the Internet Access Policy of the Cameron
Public Library or the Internet principles will result in a loss of my computer
